Our broadest country track record — spanning county-level program evaluations, national M&E systems, and disease surveillance work stretching back to 2005, across health, WASH, nutrition and reproductive health programs in partnership with donors including USAID, the EU, GIZ, DFID, Amref Health Africa and the US CDC.
Assignment History
From national disease surveillance to county-level evaluations, our Kenya program spans nearly two decades of public health and development work.
Designed and implemented a multi-country registry tracking healthcare worker COVID-19 exposure, symptom onset, testing outcomes and infection prevention and control compliance, generating evidence the Gates Foundation and Amref used to inform healthcare worker protection policy during the pandemic response.
Strengthened county-level health systems' capacity to plan, budget for, and deliver reproductive, maternal and newborn health services across Turkana and Garissa, including building supportive supervision systems and assessing frontline provider capacity gaps.
Assessed the health component of the EU Trust Fund program in Turkana County against its results framework and health outcome indicators, identifying unmet needs and recommending mid-implementation course corrections to the program team.
Evaluated the outcomes and effectiveness of an MNCH program in Isiolo County using a mixed-methods approach combining a household survey with key informant interviews and focus group discussions, and documented lessons for program sustainability.
Evaluated WASH infrastructure functionality, hygiene behavior change, and the sustainability of community water management structures established under the project in Turkana County.
Contributed to the end-of-activity evaluation of a large USAID-funded health program across Samburu and Turkana counties, assessing HIV/AIDS, maternal and child health, and health systems strengthening outcomes through performance indicator review and stakeholder consultations.
Assessed the knowledge, attitudes and practices of health workers and community members around nutrition across three counties, identifying training gaps that informed the design of GIZ's subsequent capacity-building curriculum.
Established baseline WASH access, hygiene practice, and institutional capacity indicators across four countries, giving Amref a benchmark to measure the regional program's impact against over its lifecycle.
Conducted a baseline household survey capturing maternal, newborn and child health indicators, health-seeking behavior, and access barriers in Mandera County to inform how the program targeted its interventions.
Evaluated a cross-border program improving maternal and child health access among pastoralist and nomadic populations in Kenya and Ethiopia, assessing outcome achievement against baseline and the effectiveness of the mobile health service delivery model used.
Investigated rights-based barriers to maternal and child health service access in Mandera County — including accountability mechanisms, community voice, and complaint handling — and produced recommendations for rights-based programming.
Supported the end-term evaluation of a large regional USAID health program spanning HIV, maternal and child health, family planning and nutrition service delivery across Rift Valley, Eastern and Western Kenya.
Mapped development partner activity and household-level program participation across nine counties, supporting UNU-MERIT's research into coordination and overlap between different organizations working in the same communities.
Assessed community health worker and community health unit functionality, referral system performance, and MNCH service utilization midway through the program in Samburu County, to guide the remaining implementation period.
Contributed to evaluating a community-empowerment approach to improving maternal and child health outcomes in Kibwezi and Makueni, assessing behavior change and health outcome indicators against program targets.
Conducted a baseline survey disaggregating maternal, newborn and child health, nutrition and family planning indicators by wealth quintile, gender and location in Kitui County, to identify equity gaps for targeted programming.
Supported the national HIV/AIDS program's monitoring and evaluation systems — data quality assurance, indicator tracking, and research coordination — and contributed to reporting used by national and international HIV/AIDS stakeholders.
Assessed avian influenza transmission risk pathways across live bird markets and poultry value chains nationally, informing biosecurity policy recommendations to reduce the risk of a highly pathogenic outbreak.
Coordinated a sentinel disease surveillance system for emerging infectious diseases across eight provincial hospitals and the Dadaab and Kakuma refugee camps, managing data collection, laboratory specimen referral, and reporting that fed into national and global disease control decision-making.
